What’s stunning is that 2 things are said to be true in this election. People motherfuckinghatethelivingshit out of the current President AND his policies. But also, people yearn for tender loving bipartisan frosting on their newspaper headlines. America seems to want to assault the GOP… gently.
I think what people really want is the Democratic Party to defeat the narratives that make GOP talking points stick. We want universal health care but only if we don’t feel like communists when we ask for it. We want equality and justice but not as long as it threatens our teh not gays. We want to spend on social programs but not as long as we’re communists for it and not as long as we’re stealing our own money in taxes for the government’s benefit.
The cry for bipartisanship is the framing counterpart of the cry for progressive policies.
